DIY Project – Island Cupboard

I’ve decided to change my island cupboard for an aluminium frame version because the old one was starting to have mould, rust at the hinges and have colonies of ants hiding in its crevices. Also, in order to ensure the stability of the wood structure, many braces are included and these impede the height of the objects I can store in the cupboard.

In light of all these, I’ve decided to use Aluminium profiles and acrylic. Now, the entire structure is much lighter and stronger. Its also easier to install (using the L slots and T-nuts). It is also changeable at a later date.

The 8x 360 swivel wheels (80kg load bearing each) are installed to provide mobility for the island cupboard. Acrylic panels are placed to cover the gaps between the mid and bottom sections of the cupboard.
