At this year’s gathering of the most magnificent classic cars at Pebble Beach in California, Mercedes-Benz is once again set to present a highlight: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is a car which, with its sensual, emotionally appealing design and innovative technical concept solutions, defines the ultimate in luxury of the future. At the same time the two-seater model pays homage to the glorious “automotive haute couture” of hand-finished, exclusive cabriolets.
Premiere at the Monterey Car Week.
The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is designed as an electric car. The drive system has an output of 550 kW (750 PS). The shallow underfloor battery allows a range of over 500 kilometres according to the NEDC (over 200 miles according to EPA). The elegant cabriolet is set to make its debut at the Monterey Car Week, which will take place on the Monterey Peninsula in California between 15 and 20 August 2017. The final event will be the traditional Pebble Beach Concours d’Élégance, which this year takes place on 20 August.
Powerful structural elements with sharp feature line.
The curved basic body of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet boasts a sporty, stretched design which is characterised by powerful structural elements in conjunction with the sharp feature line. This side feature line defines the upper vehicle body, from the radiator grille across the entire length of the vehicle through to the rear.
With the luxurious interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz demonstrates a new synthesis of intelligence and emotion. Also, the designers have combined the unique tradition of the brand with a hitherto unknown high-tech experience. The user experience also combines ultimate luxury with intelligence.
Designed as an electric car.
Thanks to its four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, it features all-wheel drive. The flat battery sits in the underbody. The drive system has an output of 550 kW (750 PS). This not only allows performance characteristics typical of a sports car (acceleration from 0–100 km/h in under four seconds, top speed electronically governed at 250 km/h) but also a range of over 500 kilometres according to the NEDC (over 200 miles according to EPA). The quick-charge function is also visionary: as a result of DC charging based on the CCS standard, the system allows a charging capacity of up to 350 kW. In just five minutes enough power can be charged to achieve an additional range of around 100 kilometres.
Powered by a 738-hp fully electric powertrain, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 cabriolet is said to be able to travel more than 200 miles on a charge. A quick-charging system can add 60 miles of range in five minutes, the company said. There are four electric motors, one for each wheel, allowing for all-wheel drive and torque-vectoring functionality. Performance claims include zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds and a top speed governed at 155 mph.
Executed in Nautical Blue Metallic and fitted with 24-inch wheels featuring 26 spokes and a rose-gold center lock, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 cabriolet is the open-top version of last year’s coupe concept that took Pebble Beach by surprise. Up front, a grille with 25 vertical slats represents the new face of the brand. You will see it elsewhere in the future.
The fabric top features rose gold threads, and it opens to reveal an incredibly sophisticated interior with a classic two-spoke steering wheel, futuristic lighting effects, quilted leather inspired by Chesterfield sofas, and open-pore wood with aluminum accents. The digital instrumentation incorporates physical needles—elements that Daimler describes as “hyperanalog.” The planked wooden floor plays up a maritime theme.
